In early spring, Vermont Fish & Wildlife personnel collects and measures adult walleye for breeding at the Ed Weed Fish Culture Station in Grand Island, Vermont. Later in the spring, Vermont Fish & Wildlife personnel and LCWA volunteers removes the walleye fry reared at the hatchery. The fry are accurately counted through an electronic digital unit purchased by LCWA. The fish are immediately transported to and released into the LCWA ponds.
